I love community

February 8th, 2026

There's this youth theatre troupe I'm a quasi-member of — I've been a stagehand for 1 show and have helped out at a few events, but I'm not an official member yet — and earlier today (yesterday? Idk it's past midnight when I'm writing this lmao) they had a little clothing swap! It was a small event where you entered with a suggested $10 donation, then you could look through the many tables of clothes we had, hopefully finding something you fancied! You could also bring any clothes with you that you wanted to donate, and we would add them to the tables. There were also other things there — there was stationary, a few books, a couple CDs, some vinyls, and more — but the main focus of the event was clothing. My sister, her friend, and I all got a little dressed up for it, and we brought 2 bags full of clothes — my sister and I went through our wardobes this week, so we had lots to spare.

While we were there, I split my time between helping with some of the donations, doing some of the money stuff, and of course looking for anything I could bring home with me! I found a really cute summer-y dress — I've been trying to get more into dresses and skirts, not sure how it's gonna go but I'm hopeful! — that I think fit my style, some cute stationary, a magnet of Snoopy (which you can see on the right!), and a vinyl of Tears For Fears' Songs From The Big Chair!! The event went on for about 3 hours, and it seemed to be a pretty big success! There were still a lot of clothes left, but those will all be donated to a local womens shelter, so they're not going to waste. After the event ended, we all tidied everything up, putting things into bags and throwing out anything unusable. The event was held about an hour transit ride from where my sister and I live, but fortunately one of the people there lives close to the skytrain, so she was able to drive my sister and I there, saving us a bus trip. It was really great being at such a communial event with so many queer people (just realized I forgot to mention it was queer-themed lmao) and so many cool clothes and little knickknacks.

I got into the theatre troupe 'cause my sister joined it, and sometimes I feel like I'm really just viewed as her little sibling who's tagging along and not a real member of the little community that surrounds the troupe, so it's always nice when I'm treated as just another member :)! Anyways, go to your local events! You'll be supporting something nice, and you might even get something cool out of it!!

Also I'm testing out fully spell-checking my blog posts and adding proper capitalization. Let's see how long it lasts lmao.
